home visiting

experience our home visiting programs.

overview

The intimacy of visiting in the home can make parents more comfortable about opening up and identifying their needs. It also helps home visitors to better tailor their support and guidance to the families’ needs. From observing the family in their home, home visitors can build on their strengths and can also identify risk factors in the children’s growth and development, such as maternal depression, poor parenting practices, and lack of support. Many parents can sometimes feel isolated and home visits from a trained service provider can offer a valuable connection to the outside community and the services available.

Spotlight on a Home Visitor

Meet Robert Clark

Michigan Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenting Program
(MI-APPP)
Home Visitor
Robert Clark has been a home visitor for 7 years.  He also had several case management roles within these 7 years with Foster Care, Children’s Protective Services and basic care management.  Robert has been working with Michigan Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenting Program (MI-APPP) for a year and a half.

Robert enjoys being able to go into his clients’ homes and meet with them in a place they feel more comfortable.  He says they are often more open and willing to talk to him about any concerns they are having in their life at that time.

MI-APPP services all of Saginaw County.  They work with parenting teens under the age of 21 and their positive support person.  The parent ages out of the program when they turn 22.  Although they will no longer receive direct case management, parents who age out can still contact MI-APPP if they are in need of help with resources.  For more information about MI-APPP, you can contact Robert at 989-708-8694 or email him at rclark@sisd.cc.  You can also find MI-APPP on Facebook at MI-APPP Saginaw County.

Family Spotlight

"When you are young and start taking care of adult responsibilities you may have the feeling you don't know where to start.  My name is Connie and my name is Damarcus Sr.  We started off as young teen parents.  There are many resources such as Teen Parenting Services, and Birth-5.  We, as a family, learned so much from Teen Parenting Services.  They taught us how to raise our child Damarcus Jr.  We learned the importance of doctors appointments, schooling, and behavior, but most importantly to love and cherish."
